Hurricane’s Recovery

Hurricane upon arrival at the Houston SPCA

Last November, Hurricane presented to the Houston SPCA with a monster wound over her knee joint. Somehow, despite not receiving any medical care for months, she managed to avoid infection. She was placed on a course of systemic antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and regional limb perfusions at presentation. Tetanus was also bolstered. The wound itself went through hydrotherapy, initial debridement, and a stack wrap was placed. In the beginning stages, the bandage was changed and the wound was debrided every other day. Once a health granulation bed was established, PRP was applied to the wound topically to help expedite healing time. Toward the end of treatment the stack wrap was switched to a lighter wrap around the carpus. From presentation to resolution was 8 months, and Hurricane has since been adopted into a loving home where she will be ridden by little kids.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“The only reason why we ask other people how their weekend was is so we can tell them about our own weekend.”
