Relief work is what you make of it, which means it can be tricky to calculate how much you can make working as a relief vet and plan ahead. Thankfully, Roo's handy Relief Salary Calculator lets you quickly see how many shifts it will take to achieve your annual income goals.
Use this calculator to find out:
Quickly calculate your annual Roo income or how many relief shifts you’ll need to achieve your income goals.
Estimates based on Roo average hourly rates and shift lengths in your area. Pay can often be increased with boosted shifts, promotions, Emergency/Surgery shifts, and more! Both shift times and pay can be negotiated via Roo!
Taxes, health benefits, and professional liability coverage not included.

As an independent contractor with Roo, you’ll receive every penny you see listed on each Roo shift card, delivered directly to your bank account in as little as two days. However, you’ll be responsible for paying taxes on this income at a later date, so we always recommend setting some money aside for taxes. We’d love to calculate this for you, but we’re no tax experts, so we recommend checking with a tax professional for the most accurate estimates specific to you.

You’ll also be responsible for paying for your own benefits such as health and dental insurance if you don’t get these through a full-time employer. We’ve partnered with Stride Health to get you the benefits you need at competitive rates.
While professional liability and license defense insurance are not required to work Roo shifts, we highly recommend all vets get covered before working relief, which is an additional expense to consider (though not a large one).
Roo has partnered with the AVMA PLIT to provide both at affordable rates — less than half of what you’ll earn working just a single Roo shift!
Did you know almost half of all Roo relief veterinarians use relief work to supplement their full-time income? We pride ourselves on being the most flexible relief platform for full-time veterinary professionals to quickly pick up relief shifts one-at-a-time, whenever is most convenient for you to boost your annual earnings.
Add the above salary estimate to your full-time salary to see what’s possible or see how much you can earn based on whatever number of shifts you’re comfortable working. Whatever your need, whenever you need it, Roo’s here for you!
