These past few months, Roo’s been quietly hitting the gym, shedding the fluff, and getting fierce for the new year, so the next time you sign in, you’ll find a faster, lighter, and far more efficient search experience. Finding the right shift in the nation’s largest relief network has never been this easy.

Here are the exciting new features that will make 2025 our best year yet:

Favorite hospital search: stick with what works

You know those animal hospitals that just get you? The ones with great people, that new kennel smell, and at least B+ coffee? With Roo’s Favorite Hospital Search, you can add hospitals to your Favorites and instantly see what's available at places you know you'll love.

If you’re looking for an easy, familiar experience and haven’t had a chance to “Favorite” any hospitals yet (rude), you can  filter shifts by hospitals you’ve worked at before. This feature is perfect for new relief vets building confidence and relationships at the start of their Roo journey. Or, if you just don’t feel like learning a new PIMS software this time around.

Skip the guesswork and start your shift feeling confident and ready to rock. Plus, this is a great way to build rapport with hospital teams for better collaboration and smoother shifts.

Bonus: If you’re looking to transition from relief to full-time, adding a hospital that’s a good culture fit to your favorites is a great way to make a short list and start narrowing down options.

Personalize your experience: search smarter, not harder

Are you over wrangling your calendar while digging around the Roo map? Good news: you can now filter shifts by specific dates so you’re only looking at days when you know you’re available.

Tired of frantically Googling zip codes to figure out what part of the city lines up with some 5-digit number? Fuhgeddaboudit (that would be 11201 by the way)! Now, you can search by city name or even a specific address. Throw your home address in there, and you can easily limit your commute.

Traveling to a brand new place to work relief? We got you! Now, you don’t need to bother learning all the relevant zip codes to find shifts before you go. Heck, you could even search for shifts within walking distance of your tax-deductible hotel room.

But wait, it goes deeper! You can now include or exclude specific hospital names in your search. A lot of hospital groups share the same name (at least partially), so this is helpful for organizing by group. Alternatively, if you’ve had a bad experience at a specific hospital, think of this as an anti-favorites tool.

Speaking of, we built that too! On the hospital tab of each shift, you’ll see the option to Favorite or Block a hospital from appearing in your search results — because saying “nope” to places you’re not a fan of should be a breeze.

Best of all, you can stack every single one of these filters together to create the ultimate personalized search experience with shifts tailored to your exact availability, location, and preferences. Spend less time digging and more time working at places that’ll make your tail wag (metaphorically, of course).

A Home Page that remembers you: set it and forget it

I know what you’re thinking, “With all these new search filters, I’m just gonna end up spending more time wrangling search filters.” Nuh-uh! Your Roo App now defaults to your last search settings. Sit. Stay. Good boy.

Picture this: you’ve just spent two whole minutes getting your search settings absolutely perfect, which we realize in the TikTok era is an eternity. Great! You close out of everything, work your shift, then a week later sign back in and bam — waiting right there for you is a list of perfectly curated shifts that check all the boxes.

This isn’t just a time-saver; it’s a stress-saver. Your ideal shifts are waiting for you, no extra clicks required. Because starting over is for sillies.

Schedule View: We’re type-A too, and we get it

If you’re the kind of person who finds joy in a perfectly aligned spreadsheet, the new Calendar View was made for you. It’s a top-down, visual way to see all your shifts — past, potential, and future — at a glance.

Requested, Confirmed, and Completed shifts will all populate your Schedule Page so you can see everything you’ve got going on past, present, and future.

Even better, you can use your calendar to set your availability so you only get shift recommendations for days you can actually work those shifts. Forget the Spam filters, we’ve got you.

This feature makes it easy to plan ahead, avoid conflicts, and keep your schedule running like the finely tuned machine you pride yourself on.

Improved app performance: relief work on the go

Searching shifts on our appjust got a major glow-up. Sure, you’ll see all of the above changes in your mobile app, but we made some extra special changes just for our mobile users. You’ll notice the improved feel and performance right away.

I know you must be tired of hearing this at this point, but wait there’s more (really)! Clicking on a map pin now opens a carousel of shifts at that hospital for you to swipe through until you find the right one that fits your schedule.

It’s like online dating but with shifts. Wait, scratch that entirely, we don’t need to invite any of that trauma into Roo. It’s efficiency meets flexibility in the palm of your hand. Yeah, let’s go with that.

Work-life balance comes in many forms

We built Roo with a mission to restore work-life balance to the lives of veterinary professionals everywhere. And yeah, we take that pretty seriously.

We know how important your time is. Every literal second of that time. And that is why we work tirelessly to make Roo lightning-fast to use and as easy as possible to navigate. Because the time you save fishing for shifts can be spent living in the present, which we could all do a little more of — not to push my New Year’s resolution on you.

These updates are designed to make your relief journey more efficient, more enjoyable, and entirely on your terms. And most importantly, thank you. So many of these impRoovements were made based on the amazing feedback and suggestions we received from all of you. Keep it coming!

Hop in to see the new Roo in action. Your best shifts are just a few taps away. Let’s make 2025 the year of less stress, more success, and a whole lot of happy tails (yours included).
