How to Get Started with Roo
Welcome to the wide world of relief work! Here you’ll be in total control of your career: when you work (and when you take time off), where you work, how much you earn, and who you work with. We understand this much freedom can feel overwhelming at first, which is why we’ve put this guide together to lend a paw.
This section primarily covers the Roo app and online platform. These helpful videos will teach you everything you need to know to get started. We’ll run through all of Roo’s amazing features so you can get the most out of the Roo platform. We’ll also show you how you can earn a little extra money with Roo just by working shifts or referring your friends.

Occasionally, Roo offers vet promotions, which allow you to earn even more money just by requesting and completing shifts.
Be sure to sign up for our email, push notifications and in-app alerts to be notified of all our latest promotions!
To successfully complete a promotion, you’ll have to Claim the promo in your Roo dashboard BEFORE you request any shifts. Once you claim a promotion, you’ll see a promotion tracker appear at the top of your Roo dashboard, that’s how you know you’re good to go!
From here, any shifts you request within the promotion request period will count toward the claimed promotion. Remember, you’ll still need to be confirmed by the hospital AND complete these shifts to successfully claim your promotion. It can never hurt to make a few extra requests just to be safe.
The progress bar at the top of your Roo dashboard will track which completed shifts count toward your active promotions. If you have more than one promotion active, this is helpful to keep an eye on.
Finally, when you complete your last shift, your promotion will be direct deposited into your connected bank account just like all your payments.
*Please note, Roo Promotions are dynamic, which means vets may receive different promotions and rewards based on their market and usage history.
Some shifts have flexible details, which allow you to select your preference when requesting a shift. Keep in mind, the hospital will still have to confirm your request before anything’s made official.
Some Shifts have Flexible Timing, which allows you to start or end the shift earlier or later than the posted time. The videos above show you how to adjust the shift time when you request these types of shifts.
Some shifts allow you to choose whether or not you want to perform surgery. The video above will show you how to request shifts where surgical procedures are optional.

FAQ
When you first log in to our website or app, you'll be directed to the shift booking page, or you can simply click the "Find Shifts" tab. Enter your zip code and set the max distance you're willing to travel to find shifts near you and/or search by date range. You can also search by list or map views. There are even advanced filters that let you search by shift duration, start time, hospital specialty, appointment types, minimum pay, even specific hospitals and days of the week. The goal is to make finding the perfect shift for you as easy as possible.
No, Roo does not have any monthly requirements or minimum number of shifts/hours you need to pick up to stay active. Freedom and flexibility are our core values, and you are free to build your schedule however you like. Complete just one shift or as many as you want — it’s up to you! With Roo, you define your own work-life balance.
Roo has no penalties of any kind for inactivity or taking time off. In fact, we encourage it. Work as much or as little as you like. Take a vacation or just some personal time, enjoy a long parental leave if you're welcoming a new child into the world, or simply take a break from it all. Whenever you're ready to return, Roo will be right here waiting for you.
We’ve set up Roo so that you can be paid out fast! You can input your bank account information when you set up your profile, and all payments will be direct deposited into this account. Once you complete a relief shift and rate the hospital, we trigger your payment to be processed within 2 business days.
Roo offers a number of ways you can earn more, including through our promoted Boosted Shifts, which provide higher pay in exchange for high-demand shifts or shifts that need to be filled urgently. We also occasionally offer various promotional rewards to relief vets who are active on our platform. Details for specific promotions and other offers will be emailed to you if you subscribe to our Roo email notifications, and progress towards eligible promotions will be automatically tracked in the Roo app.
Roo offers a variety of shifts, specialties, and appointment types, all of which will be visible on the shift post and hospital profile before you book your shifts. Shifts/hospitals are searchable by the following specialties: small animal, exotic animal, shelter/non-profit, and emergency/specialty. Shifts are also searchable by the following appointment types: mostly well, mostly unwell, emergency, surgery expected. We may adjust or add to these categories as we continue to improve our product for you.
Every Roo shift will indicate what kind of work you will be doing and if there will be another doctor on site for full transparency before you book anything. We'll let you know if surgery is expected, what types of surgery might be included, even how many appointments you can expect to fufill during your shift. You can even filter shifts by specific types of work you wish to perform. We want every shift to be a perfect fit for both doctor and hospital, and this starts with letting you know what to expect.

You can now cancel shifts quickly and easily using the Roo platform, and we’ll notify the hospital. To cancel a shift, please find the shift you’d like to cancel in the Roo mobile app or online platform and use the “cancel shift” link. Keep in mind, canceling can leave the hospital without a vet or tech for the day, which can create problems for the hospital and hurt client relationships. Therefore, we limit the number of cancellations allowed over a 30-day period.
