Dental Radiology, Do The Little Things Add Up?

This lecture is designed to enhance the ability of veterinarians and technicians to interpret dental radiographs and provide appropriate treatment options. By the end of this session, attendees will feel more confident and comfortable reading dental radiographs, allowing for improved diagnosis and patient care.

By focusing on practical examples and emphasizing a step-by-step approach to interpreting dental radiographs, this lecture will equip veterinary professionals with the skills needed to confidently assess dental health and select appropriate treatments for their patients.

Speaker

Dr. Robert Furman DVM

Dr. Robert Furman grew up in Southern California and attended California Polytechnic University Pomona for undergraduate training. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science with a pre-vet option. He started working as a dental technician for Southern California Veterinary Dental Specialties and Dr. Niemiec in 1998. Working with Dr. Niemiec gave Dr. Furman the opportunity to educate others thru lecturing and hands-on training. It was during this time that his passion for veterinary dentistry grew.

Dr. Furman graduated from the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine, Scotland, in 2008. He is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and a Board Certified Veterinary Dentist of the American and European Veterinary Dental Colleges. Dr. Furman has worked with Dr. Niemiec for over two decades. He has lectured extensively on dentistry throughout the world as well as authored several articles and chapters. Although Dr. Furman performs procedures from all aspects of dentistry, his professional interests include maxillofacial surgery, restoratives, and orthodontics. Dr. Furman also volunteers his time to help zoos, wildlife rehab centers, sanctuaries, and aquariums and has worked on bears, lions, tigers, sea otters, sea lions, monkeys, baboons, skunks, wolves, cougars, leopards, bobcats, meerkats, prairie dogs, and gorillas.

In efforts to increase access to dentistry, Dr. Furman opened our Ontario location in 2010, our Irvine and Santa Barbra locations in 2011, and our Ventura location in 2022. Recently our Irvine location has doubled in size, allowing for more dentists and decreasing our lead time for scheduling appointments and procedures.

In his free time, Dr. Furman enjoys restoring classic cars, cycling, hiking, and traveling. He loves spending time with his family- his wife, Yenlie, a local veterinary neurologist, Labradors Trevor, and Penny, cats Jasmine and Theodore, and his favorite Frenchie Taliah.
